hey guys,

need some help with switch design for a closet switch we have.

Inventory includes

(2) 24 Port 3524XL
(1) 24 Port 3560G
(1) 24 Port 3560E

Uplinks to the core are (2) Fiber links. Is this a recommended design and what do i need to watch out for with regard to spanning tree.

I was thinking of the following design:





--{FDDI}---3524---{copper port}---3560G

| |
| |
| |
{gigStack eth} {FDDI}
| |
| |
| |
--{FDDI}---3524---{copper port}---3560E

or even just an article on the best way to cable closet switches.
 
Done some research and I've been hearing that a ring is the best way and i can connect all these up via fiber.


3560E port 1 ----> Port2 3560G
Port1 3560G ----> Port2 3524-1
Port1 3524-1 ----> Port1 3524-2
Port2 3524-2 ----> Port2 3560E

The two uplinks to the two core switches would be in port 3 of each 3560.
 
FDDI is only 100Mb bandwidth.
Assuming your core is capable, you want a full gig for your backbone.

Also your 3560G is a gig switch, you'll want to take full advantage of it.

Swap positions and put your 3560's on the backbone

ok my bad FDDI is probably the wrong term, GigEthernet over Fiber?.

Its fiber and they connect via SFP's or GBIC's.

With that correction i still think my last design is the best.


The 3560's will connect to the core (which are two 4500's BTW)

From what it sounds you would connect standalone switches (like what i have) in the same manner you would with the 3750's with StackWise capability.
