Windows XP running ... took out CD and placed working DVD from another PC. Same cabling and jumper set to "CS" same as the CD was. System does not recognize DVD. Think BIOS needs to be set to Default but Default option doesn't show up when BIOS comes up. Any suggestions anyone? Thank you from grateful Kenny.

Change the IDE cable it's connected to and check if it still works. I would suggest rechecking the jumper settings.

Stephen

Try a new cable
Try setting Master and slave instead of CS
Try this DVDrom on a different channel
Go into the bios and make sure both channels on this controller (secondary IDE) are set to Auto (detect)
Check cable orientation (some cables are not keyed) red strip to pin 1

If you do decide to change from CS to master/slave jumper settings, keep in mind that it is recommended you have the master device at the end of the cable and the slave using the middle connector.
