svchost.exe - program error

As of yesterday my laptop running 2000 Professional get a Dr Watson program error box appear shortly after I connect my cable modem.

The error does not occur when disconnected or from work (behind a firewall?)

Symptoms include lost of clipboard and webpage link that would open a new window do not work.
When attempting to use the clipboard (copy) occasionally a message stating the COM is not properly installed will appear.

I don't doubt this could be an outside virus attach but how is it fixed ...;-(

Symptoms of MSBlaster! Do a web search on msblast you will find many links for info/removal/blocking I think you need to block tcp 139, tcp 4444, udp 69

Im not quite sure its the MSBlaster worm...however you can easily check my hitting ctrl-alt-del and goto processes. Look for msblaster.exe . If it's there, thats probally your problem. Do a search at google.com for msblaster.exe to find fixes.
