Has anyone out there had any experience working with Microsoft's Software Update Service? I'm looking for some help with this, and since it runs on a W2K Server, thought this might be the best spot.

Detroit

Yes. I have the server setup and I've downloaded all of the updates, and have set Windows Update on the pc to do the install at 2PM, but it does not work. Looks like it is trying to update from the internet. Any ideas how I point it to the SUS server??

Detroit,

As listed above the website has a great FAQ Section on configuring the client. Typically we use GPO's for computers in our domain to apply the settings. For computers outiside the domain we use the folling registery settings. (replace the sever name with your server)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update]
"AUOptions"=dword:00000001
"AUState"=dword:00000002
"LastWaitTimeout"=-
"DetectionStartTime"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"WUServer"=""WUStatusServer"="
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001
"RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:00000002
"NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001
"NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
"AUOptions"=dword:00000004
"ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
"ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000008

I've set all the registry keys very similar to what you described, but it still will not work.. Windows Update says the last one was at 9:16AM this morning when I did it over the internet.

ANy way I can force it to run?

Detroit

The link below explains how to force an update. Make sure you start and stop the services as described, and that it takes 10 minnutes to start.

Also if you watch the key below you will see the AU state change to different values based upon what it is doing.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update]
"AUOptions"=dword:00000001
"AUState"=dword:00000002
"LastWaitTimeout"=-
"DetectionStartTime"=-
