Hello All,

Anyone use this server 2000/2003 software on their network?

If so, is there anyway to keep the updates from replicating before you place them on a test machine? Other than using a test SUS server and network?

For instance, can I have a real SUS server on the network, and tell it "hold onto updates until I say okay to push them out" while I test them on my machine?

Also what do you think of SUS does it work well and perform as advertised?

If you are using the stand alone SUS Server, as soon as you approve the updates they are made available to your client systems. However, as long as they aren't approved they aren't going anywhere. I use SMS w/SUS, it allows you more flexibility to do your testing. I think the only option you may have (outside of the test server and test workstations), would be to manually download the updates that your SUS Server downloads and install them manually on your test workstation.

Thanks for the info, you have been much helpful. Approval of distrobution is fine:).

One more question about the client. When I publish it to the comptuers for initial install, is there anything that they have to do? No prompts or anything, the client can just install and search AD for the SUS server by itself? Or do I have to configure something?

No user interaction should be necessary, and for good reason. Imagine what havoc a user could cause with it. ;)
