I am really surprised that the MOH which we use an IPOD with our own music can not be played over the handsets like the Nortel. That feature has been on the Nortel for probably 20 years from what I understand. I am so surprised that IP Office can't do this simple feature. has there been any change for this? I know that *34 will play it but only for about 1 min.. A lot of people loved being able to listen to the music on their handset this was very popular. How could IP Office have missed this?

I dont recall the IPO only playing it for one minute? I remember some customers used to play it constantly....

BTW - the playing of MOH has changed a little.

This feature allows the user to check the system's music on hold. See Music On Hold for more information.

Details

· Telephone Number: Optional.
If no number is specified, the default system source is assumed. Release 4.2+: (not Small Office Edition) The system supports up to 4 hold music sources, numbered 1 to 4. 1 represents the System Source. 2 to 4 represent the Alternate Sources.

· Default Short Code: tick

· Pre-Release 4.2: *34. If a system is upgraded from pre-4.2 to 4.2+, existing hold music short codes may need to be modified.

· Release 4.2+: *34N; where N is the number of the hold music source required.

· Programmable Button Control: tick Music

· Release: 1.0+.

Example

Below is a sample short code using the Hold Music feature. This short code is a default within the configuration.

· Short Code: *34N;

· Feature: HoldMusic

Thank you for the update. Next I will try to load a .WAV file the HELP was not that clear on how to do that. After I set up the button it just beeped over and over again. Do I have to press the button after each phone call to turn the music back on or will it stay on until I turn it off at each set?

It isn't going to work, the system will cut you off after 1 minute as you say, that code is to test it not listen to it :)

Hmmm never encountered that. I have a few customers who use this for radio (against my advice) and it never cuts off, except if they press drop.

BTW, I installed Nortel for a decade before going Avaya/Mitel, and this remains to me the most ridiculous complaint of a "lost" feature. Buy PC speakers or a radio dammit!

It's done this for years as far as I know, I only noticed because I use it to listen to during a call for DECT surveys/coverage checking and after 1 min you have to redial the code :)

I'm currently on an install, 8.1(73), and wether it's .WAV or external, it plays as long as I want...1416 sets.

Maybe IPO just loves Foo Fighters, I don't know...

BTW, don't know if it's exclusive to (73), but the system doesn't ask for a reboot when changing music source as it once did; but if you don't reboot, it doesn't work; weird.

Nice feature for 9.1 or 10.0: no more reboots on trunk changes; if Nortel, Panasonic and Mitel can achieve this, surely Avaya can, right?

Release 9.0, 9611, I listened for about 2 minutes before I got sick of hearing the jingle.

If you plan on doing this with IP phones, make sure you have enough VCM resources to handle the "phone as a radio" piece as well as business related calls.

Perhaps not on deskphones then.....shows how often I get asked to do it :)

INDeX had this also. Never seen anyone use it then and never been asked for it since.

Phone speakers are pants. If you want to listen to music, get something designed for the task!!!

I have seen this feature on NEC, Panasonic, Partner, Merlin, AT&T, Nortel & Meridian and it has been around for years. Employers seem to like this feature so there is music played throughout the office, break rooms and in the lobby.
