I've already posted this in the old "KX-TD232 (sic) bad ports" thread but thought it deserved a thread of its own:

I have carbon block protection on all wiring leaving my building. What would be good secondary protection?

Should I try these - on the analog and digital extension lines going to other buildings? Should I use the 30 volt version and will that allow analog phones to ring? Or should it be 30 volt for digital extensions and 130 volt for analog?

Would something like this - be appropriate to put on my CO lines, between my KX-TD1232 and the phone company's network interfaces?

Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

ITW LYNX /PANAMAX is what panasonic suggests
for 2ndary protection yes .30 for dig on your data pair 130 for analog on the analog pair

Thank you cwc3 for clarifying 30 volt on digital extensions and 130 on CO lines and analog extensions. But what voltage should I choose for the door phone (intercom) protector? I'm going to put one on a remote building so I want to protect the 1232 from any surge coming in on that pair. Due to the low value of the door phone itself I probably will not bother with protection on the remote end of that pair. Thanks again.

Rather than the "no name" products I found earlier I might prefer these ITW Linx products here for my 66 blocks near my KX-TD1232:

Do I want the UP3P-27 (27 volt) for the digital extensions and doorphones and the UP3P-235 (235 volt) for the analog extensions (single line telephone)?

Can I use an intermediate voltage, say 75 volts, for analog extensions that are outgoing only and will never ring - for example, a credit card machine?

Does anyone know what the outgoing ringing voltage is for my KX-TD1232?

In my remote outbuildings I will put protection right at the phones. For the remote digital phones with analog devices on XDP, do you prefer
Panamax - or ITW-Linx -
and for incoming CO lines at thet KX-TD1232 in the main building
Panamax - or ITW-Linx -
The two brands, Panamax and ITW-Linx appear to be near copies of each other!

Aha! No surprise. And thank you!

But anyway, will 27 volt do the job for the digital extensions and doorphones?

And what do you think of 70 volt (rather than 235 volt) for analog extensions that are outgoing only?

Thanks again!

I've seen the ITW / Panamax product that goes into a 25 pair Telco line. Too bad that they only make that in a 230 volt version. They'd really clean up if they made it in a version with 8 pairs @ 27 volt, 8 pairs @ 230 volt, and 9 pairs not connected - and pinned for Panasonic systems - given the market penetration of Panasonic. Oh, and priced as a 16 pair rather than a 25 pair, too. Oh well.

they do make a digital version of the 25 pair unit i've used them !

I can hear the patter of keys as everyone flies off to the web site to search for the 25 pair digital version.
And I agree with all of the above posts. Where lightning/surge protection is involved, spend the money and get the Panamax (sorry, I still cannot call the ITW).

I know there's a digital 25 pair unit from ITW, but all wires are protected at 70 volts which is not enough for the analog extensions. ITW says that I should use 70 volt on digital and 230 volt on the analog lines. I will call them and see if there's a combo unit, though.

thats exactly what i did at a estate were the ksu was in
the generator building i used 2 of the 25 pair
type protectors one for the digital pair and one for the xdp
and did it all on 2 300 pair 110 blocks just buy one of each and bobs your uncle.
