supress telnetlib local echo

Hi everyone,
Bit of a newbie question I'm afraid, hope someone can help out.
We're using telnetlib.py to telnet to a box which works fine, however for some reason local echoing is turned on by default.
Does anyone know a quick and easy way to stop this.
I've seen in the telnetlib.py a SUPRESS_LOCAL_ECHO variable, but I don't know how to invoke it.

Any help would be grately recieved.

Guess it stumped everyone else too.

We've solved the problem, someone decided to change their profile to use emacs as the editor.

Grrrr!
