Suppress Optional Date fields

Hello Gentran/NT gurus,

I have some date fields coming in X12 data. It is not
a mandatory field. It is not mandatory on the output (flat
file) side either. But, when the date value is not
present in the X12 EDI data, the translator is populating
the output field with the value '19691231'. I tried the 'empty' statement and asssigning " " (spaces), and it
does not seem to remove the '19691231' value. Any pointers?

I am using Gentran:Server NT v3.1

Make it a text field and then move spaces.
