I have two of the exact same servers with the Supermicro X5DAE Motherboard. The issue I have is one of the two servers locks up with 4GB of memory in it. If that same server has 2GB of memory it runs fine, no problems. Once I put that extra 2GB in to make 4GB it locks up. Now my other server with the exact same parts, including motherboard runs fine with 4GB. Is there any way you can tell me if there are issues with that motherboard with more than 2GB?

I am running Dual Xeon 2.66GHz 533MHz bus speed CPU’s.

Also the memory chips are Corsair and all are matched.

Also upgraded to the latest bios - R1.2a

Thanks,
Chad
P.S. I couldn't find a clone server section so I am hoping this forum is a good start.

You could have a bad memory stick. Did you try swapping memory between the two systems?

Actually I did get replacement memory but it still locks up. I am getting a replacement Mainboard today and hope this will solve the problem.

Will see.

Thanks for replying.

Hi there:

I got the same problems. I have two server X5DA8 SuperMicro motherboard with 4GB memory each. But somehow one is working fine, the other is totally unrealiable. I've already tried to replace all hardware, memory, HD, Video card, and replace the same motherboard. However, it still have a problem when I run cadence tools. Really really wired.

Hope I can discuss with you.

As soon as I replaced the mainboard the problem went away. Have you tried a different Power Supply? Maybe the one in the unreliable machine is having some problems. I had a problem with another 2 of my servers where both had the exact same hardware but the voltages on one box was low and wasn't getting the power that the Xeon's needed? Did you install the Superdoctor motherboard monitor software that comes with the Mainboard to check?

Well good luck.

Chad
