sun new user help

The Sun rep just delivered our first sun server. Up until now we've been entirely NT, after phasing out our old Netware Servers. Luckily the new server (a sunfire) is set up, the OS installed and configured with our network settings, the partitions set up, etc. The server is destined to be our Oracle database server. Nothing else will be running on it. Does anyone have any suggestions about where to start learning about this thing? My first task is going to be to install Oracle. Ive checked the Oracle installation Documentation and its pretty straight forward, except I dont understand the SUN slices and mount points and file systems and the Oracle docs dont give me specifics about "where" to install...

but I would appreciate any guidance in where to get started learning the basic of this Solaris stuff.

for Oracle 11i. This will help you with kernel parameter changes that need to be made, and will also give you an idea of the slice sizes needed.

sounds like SUN has already set up your disk slices and mount points for you you can run

#df -k

to see the size of these and the mount points as well of how much free space you have so you can determine the appropriate place for your Oracle install

thanks, I finally figured some of that out, one of the things that caused me confusion was that our vendor set up the volumes as RAID5 using Veritas volume manager. So when I looked at UNIX/Solaris documentation I was seeing something different from what i was seeing on the actual server.
