I am currently working on a project using Sun Solaris CDE Version 1.4.5

I am required to open 50+ console's to work within, but it appears the limit for the CDE has been set at 48-50.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for increasing the parameters to allow more than 50 consoles to be opened at any one time?

Thankyou in advance,

Dan

Ooops, there must have been an error in the TGML writing :-(

sorry.
(just remember the apostrophe in Solaris_pty's.html when copying the link).

Excellent, thankyou Huebs!

Will look straight into it ;)

Heubs...

From how I read the link you supplied, if the version of Solaris being ran is 8 or above, then more than 48 pty's will generate automatically, if its less than version 8, i.e 7, then you need to add the line of code:

''Edit /etc/system and add the following lines:

* System V pseudo terminals
set pt_cnt = <num>

Halt the system and boot -r.''

I think Im running less than 8. I added the code, but it hasn't worked. Do you know where the line has to be added exactly? I've tried all lines in the etc/system file, but to no avail :(

It should be a new line in /etc/system, the position within the file doesn't matter ...
You did the reconfigure reboot?

Folks, couldn't it be the file descriptor limit (ulimit, rlim_fd_cur, rlim_fd_max), too?

Huebs: I typed the new line at the very bottom, after all the example code, and basically cut and pasted it around to see if it made any changes.

I opened a new cosole and typed 'halt'

Dropped to the white screen with OK, then typed 'boot -r'

It reset, came up with the fact that I'd made a reconfig, and went back to the desktop.

No changes appeared to change though.

I will however add that I am using Solaris 5.8...
