Hello everybody,

I would like to know if someone could help to understand how I may upgrade a summit24 or 48, not a i series.
We've got these equipments from a company resell, and the bootrom version is 1.9.
I've got only the version working for alpine or BD, on which I've no issue to pass the upgrade procedure. The files are ngboot72.bin and ngboot76.bin following by a Extremeware software version equal to 6.0 and so on to reach the 6.2.2. It seems to work thanks to the bootrom 6.5 of Alpine and BD.

So my question is :

What is the file to use to upgrade a summit to a suitable version (something better then a 4.1.1) and do I need to upgrade the bootrom ? if yes what the process and what are the file to use ?

Regards,

TaL

Well, you would have to go to Extreme Networks website to get the files. The Summits NON- are at sboot1.9 and extremeware 4.1.21. These switches they are not doing as much development on.To get the proper software download go to extremes site go to software look in extreme ware, from what I saw the most current ver is 1.9 bootrom and 4.1.21 extremeware.

Thanks for your answer,

Actually, we don't get back the support on the equipment when our company had rebought the old one and today we don't have privileged access to the download section of extremeware.
We've got more than 40 summit 24 or 48, and we would like to reuse them with the last image available, maybe you could help to get the extremeware image only ?

We could organize us together off the forum ?

Mail me directly : networkfx@mailcity.com

Thanks again for the confirmation and your help,

TaL

Greetings,
ExtNet has discon't the Summmit 48 & the last version of general deployment code is: Extremeware Version 4.1.19 (Build 2). Extreme no longer devlopes the 4.x code train becuase all the new devices are capable of ver. 6.x (ver. 7.x is out now).

I work for a reseller & provide presale & postsale support on all ExrNet products.

Based on my experience, it's not legal to upgrade code w/o a valid service contract & ExtrNet is no longer offering service contracts on Sum48 switches.

YOu should consider your self lucky in that I've seen many situations where people are 'stuck' w/ ver 2.x becuase they can't upgrade.

During last months, we've found a company able to offer support on Extreme Networks old products based on this particular situation.

What you said is interesting, but when you recover equipments from a dead company without recovering support contract, you need time to find out and discuss the right contract for old stuffs !

I understand your point of view, but in our particular case, I don't think ExtNet without supporting their old stuff, get a nice behaviour regarding their customers ! Yes, these (more than) 40 boxes had been bought one day...

My company offers hardware replacement for Sum24 + Sum48 w/options for AdvRplcmnt. We DON”T offer software upgrades because doing such would be illegal. I get the feel that the company you found IS offering software upgrades.

Extreme has gone out-of-the way to discourage gray-market hardware. This is apparent when you compare theeir policies to; Cisco, Nortel or even 3Com. Their philosophy is that if you buy the hardware from gray market & if you don’t legitimize the hardware, then they’ll have no acknowledgment of you being one of their customers. W/ the discontinuation of Sum24/ Sum48 OEM contracts, it's not possible to legitimize gray-market hardware.

I might suggest you reconsider upgrading the software because it’s not legal.

We got an acknowledgement with Extreme locally to get this upgrade. I won't need more details about that but be sure that the upgrade was agreed by Extreme directly, maybe because we've bought new equipments from them. I'm not responsible about this deal - it was upper in hierarchy.

Hi TaL,
I hope you understand- I wasn't trying to 'get in your business', I simply wanted to ensure that you understood the caveats. In any event, I’m glad to here that proper arrangements have been made.
