Hi
My problem is a sudden restart soon after first switching on.The system does seem to settle down after its been on a while.I recently installed a new video/capure card(Guillemot cougar)and I suppose this lies at the root of the problem.Unfortunatly technical support from Guillemot for this product is poor.I have followed various threads on your excellent forum re this annoying problem (ie removing startup items in msconfig, reinstalling drivers etc)I wonder if adding more Ram would help.System resource is between 75% to 85%.Glad of any advice

I would bet that heat is the problem. If possible, remove the CPU, clean with alcohol and reapply HS compound. You cant cool a Tbird enough! Vid Card puts out plenty of heat too and if its on an AGP, thats helping to cook the CPU. Maybe a larger fan will help. Even if the comp is fairly new
I would reapply the HS first.

Thanks for reply. It's something that I'll have to check out althogh I would have thought the cpu would get hotter the longer the pc was switched on and my crash happens about 5 minutes after switch on.

You might also want to check your power supply. Cutting off (and sometimes spontaneous restart) is a frequent early symptom of a Power supply going bad.

I am an amature, and following my advice is at your own risk.

Happy computing.
