check the nortel website, the procedure is over a thousand lines long. if your not very fam with session and server software you might want to enlist some help
Nortel would prefer to do the work for Succession upgrades, as they would make some Money out of it!. I've done 6 upgrades so far, Ranging from V16.91 onwards.
They have been to CP4 & CPP platforms. The secret is to do a double upgrade. Go from your existing software up to V25.40 / V25.40b on a CP4 first. Do all of the necessary changes, such as revised Succession parameters.
If your existing system is a Option 51, Then you must add a PRI card ranging from slot 16 to 31 (Network core 1). I've been told that this cannot be done at Succession release 03.00, Due to a software bug!.
The snag with this is that you will need to have the hardware for V25.40 & keycodes to cover you for the ISM parameters.
The conversion to V03.00 is quite easy, But be aware of any SCH, BUG, & other system messages.
I've done a guide on this process. However you will still need the hardware & V25.40 keycodes.
One other thing you need to watch out for is hardware vintage compatibility with Succession 3.0. For example, if you are upgrading a PBX with Dual PRI cards they need to be at least AF vintage to work with 3.0
On an Option 11C if your line cards and such are all compatible, you can download your database and put it on a PCMCIA card. Install the new SSC card and software daughterboard and insert the PCMCIA card into slot A on the SSC card. Boot up the PBX and follow the install procedures and when it prompts you for the archived database follow those steps.
I know this is a watered down version of the procedure, but it not terribly difficult to do.
One other thing to watch for is the cabinet compatability. I just upgraded from version 21.23 to succession 3.0 and had to replace my second cabinet. They needed to install a fiber link between the cabinets and my old cabinet would not support the new hardware. A cost that was overlooked in the original bid.
Another and most importent one - Database of Rls 18 or earlier can not be directly converted to Rls 25 or later.
So, either send your customer database to Nortel for conversion or re-enter your database after upgrade. Nortel has started to charge $$ for conversion for all pre 21 software .
if you have the keycodes you can up from 18 to 21 to 25, in most cases, bugt you do need to get the key codes from nortel. but they are pretty cheap. around 3 or 4 grand for a floppy that takes 2 minutes to make.
