I have a report that I would like to run current year data if this year is selected and historical year data (different tables) if a prior year is selected.
I figured the best way was to use a master report to collect the date ranges and generate the page headers and then use subreports for the 2 different cases. I am not using any tables in the master since it is just getting paramaters and calculating dates. Current info tables are used in 1 subreport and histroy tables are used in the other. When I run the report, nothing shows up but all the setup info from the master report. I have passed the date variables, but that doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Within the subreport, look at your record selection.

If it is nothing obvious, then develop the two reports first and only then incorporate tham as subreports.

It always helps to give your Crystal version - 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 11 or whatever. Methods sometimes change between versions, and higher versions have extra options.

Is it possible to have a "Master" report with no tables connected and then just have the 2 subrreports?
I am using Crystal 10 with XP.

I think it depends upon your version. Try adding a table with a small number of records, and add a field from it to the report header and suppress the field. See if that works.

That did the trick. But, in later versions, is this not necessary? It seems that this is a little clunky of a work-around. I am asking because we are looking to upgrade and wondering if it is worth the effort.

I don't know without testing it, but I think XI is worth it just for the improved parameter interface alone.
