This should be easy for you pros, but giving me trouble…using CR10

Main report - a) need a subreport that displays all customers with count of products that b) when clicked on takes you to the (subreport) detail of that sale.

I have accomplished, obviously, creating the main report and basic detail level structure of the subreport. The only trouble seems to be displaying DISTINCT customer names and COUNT of products in the main report that links to the sub.

Right now I have an on-demand report but it only displays 1 customer name, and there are 20. It works fine for that 1 customer though. This is probably basic, i know, and I should and will revisit my training materials...

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard

You need to explain the group structure of your main report, the location of the subreport, and how you have it linked to the main report. Is the count of products for the entire report or for a group?

Richard,

Are you actually sure that you need a subreport here? From the information you've provided, I'm unconvinced that this is necessary. Perhaps you might be able to provide some sample data explaining what you want if I've misunderstood.

You should be able to group on your customer, and place all your order information in the details section. Hide the details section, and place a group count of the order id in the customer group header. Suppress the customer group footer.

When you execute the report, you should just be able to drill down to the order detail for each customer without the need for a subreport.

I have 1 group in the Main report already on, let’s say, region. And then 1 customer group in the subreport.
The subreport is in the report header.

Naith – I’m not sure if I need a subreport either…But either way I’d like to know how to accomplish this since it comes up frequently.

I have accomplished the summary list another way, via a linked subreport. The problem here is when you click on any values in the subreport group (on the main report) it doesn’t take you to the details just yet, you just drill down to the same summary table then you have to drill down again for the details. So it takes 2 drill downs to get to the details – 1) from main report to sub, then 2) from sub group to sub detail. It is essentially a waster step…

You still haven't provided enough information for someone to help. How does the customer list relate to the region group--are you looking for ALL customers across regions, or only those within each region? Where are you getting the count of product? What is the linking field for the subreport? Please be specific about your group structure, fields, the location of the subreport (it sounds like you have tried it in the report header and in a group section?). I'm sure someone can help either with how to avoid using a subreport or how to use it so that it works for you, but we need more specific information.
