Hi,

We need to change our internal IP range as it was originally configured with an external ip range for some reason (91.x.x.x) which causes many routing problems. We have 4 sites, all on the one domain / forest and connected via a vpls network. We intended to setup each location with a range of 10.(site).x.x so each second octet is different for each site. Is this an ideal setup to keep local site traffic local and not broadcast to each site or not? I was under the assumption that this is basically subnetting each location but I have been informed that I am incorrect. Any response would be grateful. We were planning to use a 255.255.0.0 subnet at each location.

Thanks in advance

Yep :)

I don't know if a /16 subnet is the correct size for your sites not knowing current size and growth patterns/plans.

Thanks for the response.at each site we are going to further separate the subnet e.g site 1 will be 10.(site).(device category).x therefore each category can have 254 devices which is more than enough for each site.so site 1 for servers wld be 10.10.0.x then for pc's 10.10.1.x then printers 10.10.2.x. Site 2 servers wld be 10.20.0.x. Is this a good setup and correct subnetting so each site isn't broadcasting across the links unneccessarily? After this is setup we will need to introduce vlans across the sites for voice and data so again this setup needs to include this.

Thanks

your scheme is fine, a tad bit overkill, but fine nonetheless. this is assuming, as baddos said, your future growth is more or less known ahead of time so that you aren't going to run into issues

Thanks for the response. So you agree our design would work by subnetting each site in this way, broadcasts would be local to a site and not company wide? Also this design wld work in a clan environment?

yep, it will work.
