It looks like I changed a setting in Word 2k3, and now my sub-bullets do not appear when I hit tab.

For example:

- i typed something here, hit enter
- hit tab on this line, sub-bullet not appearing in place of the hyphen

Is there any particular setting I need to reset to fix this? It would be nice to go back in time to see what I did to mess it up!

Thanks,
EB

If I'm understanding properly the first bullet is ok, do a list of say 3 bullets, ask 1 to indent using the icon on the toolbar, if the sub-bullet isn't the one you want then use the drop down menu Format - Bullets and Numbering, hope this helps a bit.

That isn't quite what the issue is. I want the sub-bullet to appear automatically when I hit tab on the next line, but as I showed in the example, this is what is happening:

- i typed something here, hit enter
- hit tab on this line, sub-bullet not appearing in place of the hyphen AND the sub-bullet is not indenting after I hit tab

I obviously messed up a setting, as my on my work copy of Word 2k3, the auto-sub-bullet feature works properly.

If you are using an outline format, it is possible that you have formatted the Heading 1, Heading 2 or Heading 3 style to revert to another style when you hit enter (in other words the style for the following paragraph setting is not what it should be.) Heading styles can sometimes interfere with bulleted lists. The other place I would suggest checking is that you have in fact applied an outline list bullet/number style.

Hope this helps.

Hi flashbbeb,

I use 2003 and noticed something. Try this: Go to Format/Bullets and Numbering. On the Bullets tab, select each pane individually and click the Reset button in the bottom left. Click Yes to Confirm on each one. This reset my bullets and I was able to use the Tab key to indent the levels.
HTH,

Best,
