What are they, and why do I need them. I have a general idea of what they are, but can I get by without them. My backup process is not very complicated.

Under tools/options, there is a box labeled ‘use storage media-based catalogs.’ If I uncheck this box, can I delete the old catalogs?

If I have to have them, can put them on a network drive?

Thanks for any help offered

When you do a backup on a tape. the stuff on the tape backup goes into what is a catalog. It then shows on your list when you need to do a restore, or whatever from the tape. you do need the catalogs. this helps you see what is on the tapes.
Under tools/options/settings you see catalog. in that menu, you can set up how long you want to keep this record. and exactly where you want the catalogs stored..
hope this helps you.. I am talking about veritas 9.0 version.
