when I go to start run the type in command like ipconfig , the command window just flashed on screen then goes away, why will it not stay?

Try start - run - CMD

Then type ipconfig at the command prompt.

I know this is for the xp forum...

But just as a side note... On older workstations you cant just type "cmd" in the run box.. you need to type out the whole thing "command" and then hit enter for the command box....

Another place in xp to find this sucker is in the
Programs > accessories > its named "command prompt"

Hope that helps!
happy ipconfig-ing

Auger282,

Ah.......

There are serious, important, substantial and significant differences between typing at the Start, Run, line the following:

CMD
command

Use the CMD rather than command.

also, older version of windows, I think 95 and 98, you'll need to use winipcfg instead of ipconfig.

I was using ipconfig as an example, I really need it to run SQL stored procedures.

Thanks!
