Hi!

Hope someone can help.
I am looking into studying Networks as I believe it will be a major help with the position I have working with Voice communications.
My question is where to I start?
Is it worth doing a N+ before looking into Cisco?
Where do you start with Cisco, what in the entry lever cert?

Thanks in advance

John

i don't know witch you should start with (networ+ or cisco).
but if/when you do go for cisco you need to start with the ccna. it is a basic for all cisco certs and is required to get get any profesional level certs from cisco. the ccda is also a basic cert but i found it very helpful to have the ccna already.

check out for all your cert questions. you can also get a list of objectives for the ccna there.

Hi to all,

There are people who passed CCNA without taking it from a cisco affiliated schools, but you have to read semesters 1 to 4 and do some exercises and hands-on lab. be sure that you are confident and brave enough( you study hard)to take the ccna exam.

greeting,

i have some doubts in performing backup to tftp server.
hopes somebody can let me know about it:
i am using sysbex 's book, from todd lamle, but i couldn't find the way to set this up.

1)do i need to have another pc as tftp server in this case?
2)how to setup this server?

thanks.

desps:

Yes, you need a TFTP server. It is basically a PC or Unix running TFTP program. In term of set up, it is no more than just run the program and configured it for the path of the file coming in and the path of the log file.

Check the router forum for TFTP post.

I actually just picked up the CCNA flash cards book by cisco press and it is working great. Comes with a CD for your computer with a testing engine and ability to put the flash cards on your computer. Very helpful

I have just found out that they have opened a Cisco academy near me, are these really worth doing?
I suppose for the real hands on with the kit it should be very helpful.

Thanks for all your replies.

John

welshman213,

I have gone through the cisco academy and I have found it to be rather educational.. I was able to have my hands on all sorts of equipment and the course is pretty well structured. I have yet to take the test, but after a good review I am confident enough that I will pass the test.

Franksoprano,

Thanks for the insight, I think I will embark on the academy, this september.

Thanks

John

Goodluck!! You will get some good books with the course, and some good lab books, make sure to take advantage of the lab equipment and try to do the labs in the work book.. At work I have access to plenty of spare routers so I am going to set them up and try different labs.

Whats also nice about the academy is you can get all of the material online also, so should you ever need to look it up if you have internet access you can get into the curriculum which goes along with the books.

Take Care!
