Hello,

I'm trying to open my laptop in order to add some RAM but I've discovered that there are three screws that refuse to move even when using the most apropriate screw driver. And the problem is that the screws have been damaged in the process of trying again and again.

Does someone know a trick that could allow to remove those three reluctant screws from my laptop (Fujitsu FMV-Biblo NS VIII 23X) without breaking it appart?

I've tried to remove them just after using the computer thinking that the heat would have made the plastic become less tight around the screws, but it didn't work.

Any idea?

Thanks to the one who will think about something :) !!!

i am guessing that these screws are small #1 philips head screws. try to tighten the screws just a bit first to see if they will move if so then slowly back them out, you might have to lightly and i mean lightly tap on the screwdriver to make sure it is seated well in the screw. if this doesnt work then go to home depot or something and they make a screw extractor that will pull them out. good luck everyday you learn something new, the day you dont is the day you die....so make someone live longer teach them something.......MUTT

Thanks Mutt511 !

I was convinced there was an existing tool that could handle the problem but I didn't knew the name. Lets search for a screw extractor!

Thanks again :)

this may be an extreme solution.....you could drill the head off the screw then once open use mole\vise grips on the remaining screw. Do it all the time on cars...but perhaps not appropriate in your case. If your unsure....Dont do it!

oh yeah, something else i just thought of if all else fails. try to find a left handed drill bit, it spins opposite of regular bits and will pull the screw right out

I used to have to remove very small screws from electrical equipment and I used was is called an easy out. or you can drill them out and tap the hole, but you must be very careful not to damage the threads that you are going to tap, kind of like surgery on a laptop. an easy out is drilled in reverse and usually grabs the screw and either backs it out or drills it out. Like I said be very careful, they are made for every size screw, use the right size. have you looked into the possibility that they might be left hand threads.
LOL PEARL

just out of curiosity, what do you have to remove to put memory in that thing? Most laptops have a small door on the bottom with 1 screw.

You're right Matt. But this single one was the nastiest ;-)

Anyway, I've managed to remove it by brute-force tactic (I didn't break anything though and everything is fine now).

Thanks for all the posts.
