Stuck in Activation Loop 1

At the logon screen my sons' pc says it needs to be activated, but it has been activated already. I have acepted its offer to activate now, and it confirms that it is already activated, and dumps me back to the logon screen. It is a legit OEM version of XP, registered by telephone with microsft.
I was going to run a repair from the windows install disk, but does anyone have a better solution.

I would, but the telephone number is provided by XP when you click on activate by telephone, and since windows thinks it is already activated, and won't log on, I can't get the correct telephone number, or another activation code to give to microsoft.

Contact Microsoft support by phone, explain your problem, they will fix it for you, or they will supply you with the phone number that normally would appear on the Activation screen.

Have a read of these too. Can you access the machine via Safe Mode?
