.sts, .st0, .dmp files

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I have been searching this forum and the web, but I can't find the answer anywhere. I have several VB applications that create .sts, .st0, and .dmp files in the same directory that the .exe is located. The .exe appears to be writing to these files while the program is running. They get to be very large over time, I have tried deleting them but they get recreated. Does anyone know what these files are for or how to stop them from being created?
