anybody ever seen a patch panel with amphenol connector instead of 110 terminations per port? my tech svc mgr says he knows of some but can't seem to remember the vendor. It has to be data grade - cat 5 or 6 - 300 MHZ and up.
thx.
I believe this may be what you need. Ortronics PN. 808044328. This is a 48 port Cat5 patch panel to amphenol on the back. We are using these to convert off of Cabletron MMAC-8 chassis with amphenol cable to new Cisco 4500 series switches.
Typical telco patch panels, we use them all the time for Voice applications, never for Data.
Sure speeds up termination. We use them for the lines out from a PBX or KSU, not for the workstation cables. Then you patch between the Telco panel and your workstation cable patch panels.
Most all manufacturers make them. I use the Leviton panels regularly.
Skip, They have them that are rated cat5 but I have not seen any that were rated higher. (but then I'm not looking anymore) We used them to connect from HP hubs to the patch panels (the panels were 110) and then jumper to the outlet using cat5 rated jumper wire.
I've used them on Cisco cards for data, and they have them with a 180 degree exit where the amphenol comes straight out of the connector rather that with a 90 degree turn as usually seen. If I'm not mistaken, they were for 100 meg and they were rated Cat5e.
Cabletron also used to use this type of connecttion. Obviously the previously mentioned Ortronics part, but I believe Leviton and Siemons also a similar part. Would be suprised if they still do, but not sure.
Not going to say that there are not Cat5e, but I've only ever seen Cat5. I think we've still got one or two lying around some where (we used to be all Cabletron). I'll try and hunt them down and see what they are.
