I traced a query's "calc max" error to a field type in an imported table. In the original text file all fields were tab separated numbers including many integer fields. Paradox imported some of these number fields as alpha fields. The "calc max" field in the resulting Paradox table contained only integers but unfortunately was rendered as an alpha field. Changing the field type solved the problem, but doing this manually would be too cumbersome.

Create the table with fields as you need them.

Then import into this table rather than having Paradox create a new table. You should then have the data in the field type you need.

Thanks Tony,

It worked like a charm. A bonus is that it created a script which I'll incorporate into my project.
