Hi there,

I have an apache (1.3) server running on RH linux, and i would like to host real audio stuff so that i can stream sound and protect copyright and stuff (as it will be copyrighted music I'll be using).

I have gone through Real's site and as ever they make it seem like you have to buy the most expensive option to stream stuff, but i am not familiar with streaming media on the web (most of my web experience is corporate and e-commerce) but there is usually other options.

Any tips on this would be great.
I can fall back on mp3s, but i would prefer to find out about Real first.

The site is built from PHP with a MYSql database.

Thanks

JEz :)

Try adding followin to your Apache config file:
AddType video/x-ms-asf asf .asx
AddType application/x-ms-wmv .wmv

OK, will read up on this...serving as MS files could work.

Thanks

JEz

You can setup the Darwin Streaming Server on your Linux.
Check out the Apple Quicktime website for download and instructions.
Darwin is made to stream audio and video on Linux.
We are using it on Apache Linux server, works fine.

I found this link via google:

Go with the Ogg streaming. It's free. Mp3 isn't 'free' (I believe), and not sure about Real, but it's a real obstinant bugger that refuses to not start up on boot on my Windows box. Therefore, it stinks IMHO ;-)

I could be wrong, but I'm also really tired!

*yawn*
