I wanna connect one of my machine to our intranet, but the autoconfiguration address for the machine after I installed the network adapter is always 169.254.91.28, that not I wanted, it was suposed to be 192.168...something. I also changed another network adapter, but got the same result. any idea about it?

The machine use win2000 Pro.

There is communication problem between the computer and the DHCP server. Verify the connection is good such as the cable.

169.254.91.28 is in the range of MS's private addressing range. 169.254.x.x. If a computer is set to get an address from a dhcp server, and the server is not available, this is the range it's assigned from. Can you ping the server? How about connecting to the intranet with a static ip?

Thanks for your replies

1.the cable is ok, cause I always use it for testing, it works fine

2.I tried to use static ip, but also no luck.I can only ping myself, and also only can see myself in my network places

Is the network card configured to Auto Detect? Can you test out another PC on that cable or port to see if it has any problems? Any firewall on that PC preventing DHCP packets? Is the DHCP client service running on the computer?

the network card is configured as auto detect, dhcp client service is running and there's no firewall at all.

maybe i should get another network card for it?

Got it now.
I changed another PCI slot and it works fine now.
