strange referrers to my site

This past week, I've been seeing many strange gambling/casino sites listed as referrers to my company's webpage. These pages are obvious googlespamming pages (examples include poker-4all.com, with various subpages such as texas-holdem.html, pacificpoker.html,etc). We got about 2000 referrals total the past week.
What makes this stranger is that:

-our company's business has nothing to do with poker or gambling and our customers would not be similar in anyway.

-we're currently not running any kind of advertising program that would result in links to our site from third-parties.

-These referral sites all seem dead(!).


Can anybody give me a clue on what can be causing this??

Has some new bit of spyware appeared recently that sets those sites as the user's homepage?
If so, perhaps that's why.

Probably just refererspam.

Sending out a bot to leave a log entry on the off chance that
1/ You visit the page(s) when checking your logs and the click through gets paid. Favoured by lazy affiliates and lower tier crappy PPC search engines.

2/ Your site logs are public and it adds up another link or few and/or the log pages get found for other searches and JQ Public clicks through. This method is also used to get link pop for cloaked pages.

Thanks for the suggestions. IT could be a combination of all of these. I scrolled further down the list and found even more similar referrers--over a dozen with a total of over 3000 referrals in the past week. Well I hope they go away soon..they're really messing up the stats.
