Hi all,

I'm having problems with one laptop on my clients network. every time you go into the calendar on either 5day or 7day view and select some time with the mouse then type to enter a new appointment if you put the any of the letters e h i n o t u in the description of the appointment it starts madly sending and recieving the exchange server, it has counted up to over 3000 send/receive tasks on some occasions, this makes outlook and the calendar unuseable.

I have tried
1) a new outlook profile for the user
2) updating outlook using microsoft update, it is now Office 2003 SP2 Etc.
3) Virus scanning the PC
4) Outlook in safe mode
5) Deleting the entire user profile from the laptop and starting from scratch

all to no avail. I'm stumped can anyone help

Regards

If you set up the profile on another PC or laptop, do you have the same problem?

I am assuming that nobody else at the client site has ever had this issue?

If you can - reimage their laptop and do a fresh install of everything. Eliminate all of that at the same time.

See if you hav the same problem with that profile from a different PC/laptop.

Also - does the user have any macros enabled? Probably a dumb idea but maybe something like that could be causing it?

That's the best advice I can give right now...definitely an odd scenario.

We had a client whereby deleting a message with the "Delete" key would cause the PC to shutdown. New motherboard on the PC fixed it.

Nice to hear im not the only one with ghosts! I have a machine that for some reason the T and H keys will stop working in Outlook. I've also had the same issue where strange text appears. At first I thought it was virus or spyware, but it wasn't. I ended up re-creating the profile and OST file then the issue went away. Never did find the root cause.

Turned out to be a dodgy keyboard on the laptop. After tearing my hair out for ages i installed a keylogger that did all keys and function keys and gould see that every time i hit one of the offending keys it was pressing F9
