Strange links problem

I have just been looking at a problem with IE5 that has me baffled. When you click a link (google search results for example) it opens in a seperate window with an egg timer and just freezes. If you know the URL and type it in manualy you can view any site without a problem.

Any suggestions would be gratefuly received!

I'd agree with the hijacker theory. Get HijackThis (now at version 1991) reboot to safe mode, and scan with it.
