Two problems with our Windows 2003 server but I suspect that they may be related. In all cases, I am logged in as Administrator.

I installed JRE6 Update 5 and all went well except java.exe was not installed. I tried to save a copy from another computer and that failed. I renamed java.exe to otherfile.exe and then copy to the server and it copy fine. If I try to rename otherfile.exe to java.exe, there is an error. I open a DOS box and copy otherfile.exe to java.exe and seems to work since there is no error but the file is still missing. It seems that I can copy any .exe file except a file named java.exe. Very strange.

The other problem is that I cannot delete any of the folders under the 'Program Files\Java' folder. I get 'Cannot delete. The directory is not empty'. Sometimes I get 'Cannot delete. Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full or write protected and that file is not in use'.

All advice will be appreciated.

After you turn on the computer, press F7 or F8 to get to dos prompt with network support. Then copy java.exe to that location.

I do not know if this way has side effect.

I'd install from scratch, I don't thinkg copying executable files is a good idea.

Cheers,
Dian

I have re-installed from scratch many times. Each time, everything installs fine except there is no java.exe in the folder. For some reason this server will not allow any file called java.exe to be saved. I am starting to think this may be a virus or some Server 2003 policy that I am not aware of.
