strange dial tone

I have one extension in my system which, when the phone goes off hook, there is a perforated dial tone. The phone is still able to function normally but the dial tone is a bit annoying. What could be causing this?

Do they have DND or Call Fwd turned on? The broken dial tone indicates that the phone has a feature turned on that impacts normal call answer.

Dial Short Code *00 on the phone to clear it.

Just upgraded to 4.0.10. When I hit 9, 3 seconds or so go by before I hear secondary dial tone. No Call Forward or DND is on. I can still go ahead enter the number after I hit 9, though. If I wait the 3 seconds before I here the dial tone, it's too late, it will time out. What up wit dat?

I had this on an install just last weekend, I didn't notice it until I was just about to go home whilst checking the 5410's had not frozen again....but that's another issue. I tried 2 power downs and reboots, no joy so left it to deal with it the next day but overnight it appeared to fix it self as the next day it was normal.....on 4.0.7. God knows what happened and it does not help you but it is not just a problem with your system!!!!

What - lack of secondary dial tone or perforated (I like that phrase) dial tone?
