Any one have any tips on getting pins straight on a Socket A Amd so the processor will go down in the socket? Just one corner or maybe even one pin is bent so it wont fit in there.
thx

Very small flat-head screwdriver & be careful. If it's an outside pin, maybe needle-nose pliers.

I use eyebrow tweezers and bend the pin a little at a time. If you use pliers you run the risk of snapping the pin altogether. Tweezers have a degree of flex that reduces the risk slightly.

I remember that there used to be tools specifically for this kind of thing. Haven't seen any for a while though. You might take a look at Radio Shack to see if they have anything.

Hope this helps.

You are eyeballing the rows from on edge to identify the problem I assume. Any out of line enough to prevent insertion should be pretty obvious.
I prefer the small screwdriver, too. I also like to have it in antistatic foam before and resting on the foam while I'm working.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Thank you all so much for your advise. I sure hate to ruin this CPU because I just bought with a no return policy from Target USA which I would not recommend buying anything from . No Documentation and lousy return policy.
Thanks and all the best to you all!
