Hi, maybe someone can help.

We are using IPAQ's to collect survey data from customers in pocket excel but it is rather unwieldyas the survey is complex and needs to be more interactive(jumping between questions etc). But the functionality in pocket office is so cut down as to be useless. The best place to collect and input this info on the handheld is a webform, and I want to submit each survey to be added to the same text file to import to a database back in the office. From what I have read webforms have to have server side support for scripting.

Can any of you wise people suggest a way to make this work offline on a handheld, or suggest a practical alternative considering the limited capabilities of Pocket Windows.

Many Thanks

CB

There was rumours of a pocket perl some time ago, which should permit what you're looking for

You'd be better off looking at the SDK for Pocket PC, in particular pocket access. It can have forms, it's got be worth a look. There are pocket programming forums, not sur if there's one here though

CGI is not going to help you here, CGI requires more then perl, it requires a webserver and you won't be installing that on your users IPAQ's!

I agree with Paul, build a custom app, you can even do it in VBScript probably and still run it in a webcontext, just locally.

hmm, and I was hoping for an easy solution.

thanks for the pointers though. I was hoping for something simple as everyone is supposed to be driving towards mobile working etc. Next thing I'll expect helpful help files.

PAULTEG - I googled pocket tk and can't find a thing - more info please?

A simple VBSCript app is probably your best bet. I'd look in that direction.

Thats only simple if you know VB ;o)

Still never too old to learn, and another skill to add to my bizarre repertoire - thanks, next stop amazon.

Sorry if I mesled you,
T/k allows you to build GUI interfaces for Python and Perl IINM, a pocket T/k would require pocket perl

just being facetious is all, i thought the smilie would explain it ;-)
