We changed number of drives from 8 to 4, saved the configuration, and now we get an error code FSC #3111 after an IPL. Any suggestions or help solving this issue.

We bought this unit used, and do not have any manuals or admin or configuration guides.

Thanks

Did you physically remove the drives from the 9710?

If you did there is a plate and section of tape storage slots that must be installed where you removed the upper drives.

This might be causing your error.

Last week we removed 2 drives from the top, but did not save the config. Yesterday we saved the config, and that's when the errors' started. Which plates do you mean, and do you know how i can get the configuration installation and administartion manuals for the 9710.

Thanks for your response.

Simple answer, reconfig to the same number of drives as you had before, even if the drives don`t exist. The problem is that the library is searching for cells which should be built in when the drives are not installed/configured..... or place the missing cells above the drives if you have them.......one or the other.
It does not matter if more drives are configured than actually available, but not actually installed, except you have less cells than you might have had............simple really! One would think that all the clues were there really, but not noticed or taken notice of properly.....if you had backtracked, you would have fixed the problems yourself.....
