how do I stop attachments coming through

Exchange 5.5 out of the box is not capable of blocking attachments. One option you may consider, is looking at some settings within your virus scan product. ANY exchange server should be running a virus scan product so setting to quarantine all attachments will deliver mail, but strip the attachemnt.

you can limit the email size in the IMC to 5KB. It won't stop attachments that are tiny and will stop larger text emails but its a start.

You can also set your e-mail client to remove attachments. There is a security update for Outlook 2000 to do this. Outlook XP has this feature built in, and newer versions of Outlook express also have this abiltiy. Another way you can remove attachments is through mail-server add-ons like virus scanners.
