I have a dell precision 470 running windows xp professional, we had a power outage today the battery backup did not hold and the machine shut down.

When i went to turn it on i got the blue screen with the error above.

I tried to boot to last know good configuration, also to safe mode and safe mode with command prompt.

None of these work it just goes right back to that screen.

Run diagnostics on the Hard drive.
0x0000007B errors usually refer to the HD / boot device.

Make sure the drive didn't suffer any physical damage with the outage. If it checks out try a repair using the Windows Installation disc.

Try a repair before you reformat. If worse comes to worst try an in-place install, you'll loose all windows updates but applications and data will be untouched.

Other than that, you can try to slave your Hard drive to another PC and access the data that way.

I would say that you should have done the hard drive test first - why??

Because if it was on its way out and you loaded a new windows installation on the drive, it might have provided enough disk activity to kill off the drive BEFORE you get windows running and your data off.

So, I would have said to slave the drive and get your most important data, then run the test, then reload windows or do that parallel install or repair install.

But, the parallel install wouldn't be necessary if you got your data first.

Try also a Hirens Boot CD first, Boot to WinPE and copy your important stuff off first, then you can use the tools in Hirens to check for any issues.
