Hi All,

My friend's laptop has a win 2k OS. When he starts his computer it gives STOP ERROR with some hexa numbers(in a blue screen). The error message is as follows:

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
If this is first time you've seen this stop error screen, Restart your computer. If this screen appearsagain, follow these steps:
check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.

FYI: He didn't installed any new hard drive or controller or disturb configurations at all. according to him, he installed good Anti-virus utility on his computer and he is sure there in no virus problem. when he started he heard some noise (may be rotation of Hard disk!!) and then he got above message he followed the steps the screen recommended but still doesn't work. he did CHKDSK it works upto 90% than stops.

Anybodu please let me know if this is repairable? if yes than what should we need to do?

Thx in advanced!

Either data became corrupted on the hard drive or it just up and failed. Either way put the Windows 2000 cd in and boot with it. There is a repair option in there that will check all the files and replace damaged ones. If it doesn't fix the problem then just run setup again, delete the partition and create a new one and reinstall. You'll either end up with a fresh install or it will tell you the drive is damaged.

Go to drive manufacturer's site and download their diagnostic utility to check the drive (most have them) - it sounds like drive is failing.

PS. If needs to retrieve data, load as slave in another machine and copy what's needed ASAP, in case of complete failure.
