Stop error during win 2k installation 1

I am trying to install win 2k pro on a Dell optiplex GX110. I cleaned it up and formatted the drive first. I have tried booting with win 98 boot disk with win 98(OS) and have tried installing 2kpro from the i386 folder. I have even tried to install 2kpro with Madboot. During win 2k pro's "installing Devices" I get a blue screen that says:

The pc will not go any further. I have tried switching ram sticks with an identical pc..that didn't work either. I would appreciate any suggestions.

It is definately a driver problem. What kind of hardware are you installing to?

Try removing any extra hardware you can before the install. Replace any USB input devices with PS2 (keyboard and mouse). Remove the network cards and sound cards if you can. Install each component individually and update the drivers, reboot, test and then work on the next one.

If you are still unable to start, go into BIOS and disable USB, and any unused peripherals (serial ports, on board sound, RAID controllers, etc).

I started by removing the NIC card and ......poof! The computer continued with the Windows 2k pro setup. Now I am installing XP. Thanks a lot.
