I wonder if someone could help me?
I am using windows 98 on a Time computer with a 400 mhz processor. I used msconfig to disable stimon and now I can't upload pictures from my digital camera. When I connect the camera, I get a message

"STIMON caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0177:bff7b997.
Registers:Etc"

My scanner still works?

I then found a web site :-

and I followed the instructions about renaming the stimon file and removing the registry links but all to no avail! If it makes any difference, the camera is a cannon ixus 300

I have renamed the stimon.old back to stimon.exe and I still get the same message.

I can't find Stimon.exe on the windows 98 disc. Is it in one of the zipped files and if so what do I do then?

I hope someone can help!

I can be emailed at Donham@cableinet.co.uk

Very confused!

Sorry the complete address is not highlighted. You need to include ;EN-US;q232972 in the address.

This should get you the same version as mine , version 4.10.222 which I believe is newer than your version 4.10.98.

Hi donham

I have an HP Scanjet 5300C, Logitech QuickCam, and regularly connect a Canon Powershot S10 digital camera. Prior to getting the camera we had "Stimon not responding errors" frequently. Still do but simply Ctrl-Alt-Del, and end task. I spent some time with Microsoft over the issue but no total solution. The links below will provide some "workarounds" if you are interested. One thing that helped us was turning off Active desktop and restricting HP startup programs to "hpppta".

Hi Guys, You are never going to believe this, but I have got the problem sorted! I am not sure whether it's relevant or not, but 2 days ago I discovered I had the virus w32badtrans.b@mm so after a short course of antibiotics the system seems to have recovered from that! I was however still getting the Stimon problem! This morning,I was on the verge of calling in a computer engineer but I thought I would first try the camera on the kids computer. I unplugged the lead and the camera only to find that the kids computer doesn't have a usb socket! Plugged the thing back into my system, and It said "Windows has found new hardware" and we were in business! Thanks for all your help anyway guys. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy ney year.

Great find!! Something we all overlooked but will certainly remember to pass on.

Worth a star for perseverance

Thanks for the lightening of our woes. We were halfway through the advice before we found this 'saga of stimon'.
Having windowsME (which has, surprisingly, been behaving itself for a while)we have just started receiving any number of error messages, causing(among any number of other things), the beast to crash, the dreaded BSOD and problems with our CDROM drives. We are trying all the above advice and will keep you informed. Of course, providing our internet connection is working because it is trying to b*, oops sorry, MESS, that up as well.s-)

Hello wnger,
similar stuff happening to me. My camers's Canon A10. All was fine until it suddenly wasn't anymore. But, the error message in my case (Windows ME) says 'Stimon caused an error in Kernel32.dll.' did you see any light in that direction??
