Hey Web Designers:

Do you still write out HTML to design your pages or do you use
something like Frontpage to do your work? Just wondering.

I use DW as my hand-code editor. Started off using it for real, but it always needs some tweaking.

I looked briefly at FrontPage, but the code it produces is horrendous. You can always spot a FP site just by running a validation on it [smile] - if you get the message
The maximum number of errors was reached. Further errors in the document have not been reported.
then it's probably FP

<aside> algraff - check your sites on sometime </aside>

johnwm, I had to laugh when you said you can spot a frontpage site from validation. I can spot them when the first page wipes in,lol. I found this thread interesting in that a lot of people were acutally handcoding. Not that I'm worldly wise on the subject but I also handcode and thought I was the odd one out. I too love the fact I've made it myself and if something has gone wrong I know where to look for it.

I haven't quite wrapped my head around javascript, but can use it in small bits, etc. I've probably been left behind a bit with css, as I learnt it as it came in but haven't kept up with newer stuff. I love arachnophillia for a text editor or notepad, when notepad doesn't cut it, I've also got notepad++ which was also nice and it's free as well, which is a bonus.

Hey all I love to see people knock frontpage because i don't like it either. i started out using netscape composer about 6 years ago and have since moved to frontpage about 5 years but then I got smart and I use either dw or bbedit. I have also found many problems with GoLive.

But I have found a way to make frontpage work write in a pinch. Like when you are somewhere and need to do an emergancy correction and thats all u got. The way I found was by turning off frontpages optios for code.

ps You can also tell it is a front page site when you have 15 pages of code for the word hello.

I've only ever hand coded my sites. All a combination of HTML/PHP & CSS.

Started off in notepad, but once my php files started getting a bit long, realised that a good colour-coded editor would save an awful lot of time searching for syntax errors and the like.

My current favourite is weaverslave. Not only does it colour-code the text, it has shortcut buttons for inputting tags and it has a colour wheel that dislays the hex code and paste it into your code for you. All that for free.

I also like (maybe prefer) PHPExpert Editor, but that costs!
