I have a Communication Manager server here on site that runs a remote site in another state. We run a different PBX here( Avaya) but I have purchased two 7941's I would like to get working here for a lab type environment. I don't need any outbound calling trunks added, I just would like to get these two phones talking to each other...then eventually get them talking to the Avaya Definty.

I have briefly looked at the Call Manager GUI and am hoping you all could give me a quick step by step process for adding these phones...

This could even become a FAQ if done clearly enough (or maybe there is one already???). Thanks to all in advance!

Is the Call Manager setup for auto phone registration?

To add a phone click on devices
select phone
add phone
select phone type
add items such as extension number, CSS, Partition, Media resource group, etc etc.

This should get you want you need...

When I plug in the phone it seems to just keep "Configuring IP".

Any thoughts?

Did you follow the steps to install in CUCM first?

Sounds like the phone doesn't know who it is!

You can try using auto-register. You'd need to make the change in CUCM first.

What version of CUCM are you running?

The instructions are very different for 5X/6X from previous versions.

You can go to Cisco.com and on the right side of the main page is a short cut to Documentation or use this link:

From there you can select your version of the OS and get the proper Admin guide. Might be better than posting here, since there are many steps to get everything working.

We are running 4.2 I think. I went in and added the phone in CUCM.

I don't think it is seeing the Call Manager maybe?

How does the phone know where to register?

I admin'd a 3.4 and now a 6.0 so I can't give you step by step. Sorry!

It does sound like the phone is not seeing CM to get it's configs.

You can try setting up CM to auto register the phone. The should be a setting in CCMAdmin/Server/CM Group or something along those lines. The links below should give you the proper path for 4.2.

If that works, you can make changes to CSS (calling search space), DP (device pools) and Partition.

Here's three links for 4.2 (1).

System Guide:

Features and Services:

You'll need all three at some point.

Thanks for all the input! I think i am getting closer. Now the phone says "Registration Rejected - Error mismatch...
"

Make sure you have the MAC address right in CUCM and the port you are plugging into is configured for voice.

Two very common reasons for registration rejected.

Also, verify you have the correct device type. It's on the bottom of the phone.

A 7941G will not register if you program the device as a 7941G-GE. (G 10/100, G-GE 1G)

AWESOME! That is exactly what it was. I had it programmed like a 7941...not a 7941G-GE which it is.

Thanks so much.

I am sure I will be posting on here alot in the future...hope to talk to you again!
