Here's the problem: I have a logo to recreate which has as series of small concentric lines of equal size which step like so: | | | | | | . . . and then curve to form the outline of a cylinder (they go from vertical to 45 to horizontal and back to vertical). While I could spend all day copying the same lines and adjusting them with blends and the like I seem to remember a "Step & Repeat on a Path" function on past versions of Illustrator (as early as 7 or 8?) but I can't seem to remember how to get there. any ideas? much thanks.

Did you try using the Blend Tool? For example with the blend tool you would draw a line then draw another line or a curve a few inches away from your first line. Then you click on the blend tool and select the nodes for example the top most node of the first line and the top most node on the second line which will create multiple lines for you and if you double click on the Blend Tool while you have the blend selected you should be able to control how many lines are inbetween those two lines.

That my solve your problem and if you play around with the nodes you select you can do some interesting morphing effects.
