Hello,

I am in the process of trying to get a STE (Secure Telephone Equipment) to talk over an isdn network. I have been unsuccessful so far. I have a basic configuration of the ste in the switch but im not quite sure if i have the setup correct. I have a station built inside the switch with a type of 8510T. I have data module checked and have a data module tab filled in with Full duplex, Sync, and rate of 1200. I have the STE punched directly to the phone block coming off the switch on pairs 3 and 4 with white-orange, white-blue, blue, orange as my pin out. I have an RJ 45 going from the block to the ste with a pinout of WG, G, WO, WB, B, O, WB, Br. The STE configuration is setup as STE-8510, with the ISDN port selected as active port and my SPID being the extension here with the DN being blank.

I get no dial tone and when i pickup the handset it tells me registration has failed and to check the settings or cable.

What am i doing wrong? Please help!!

so is this a digital or analog STE/STU phone or neither?

Its is an analog set. Basically i am going to use the phone to dial another STE Securely then once the connection is made go into secure data for the equipment they need to communicate with.

do you have a 8510T to use as a tester for that port?

Yeah we do. We currently have it punched down straight to the 66 Block inside the frameroom coming right out of the back of the switch to eliminate any issues with cabling.

did it come up when you plugged it in to your test jack??

You have to program the spid into the 8510 set. I use menu,mute,43* and then enter the spid.On the STe set you also have to enter a spid.
