Somewhere in FPW2.6, you can display a clickable table that allows you to see all the files in use and their attributes - SHARED, EXCLUSIVE, etc. (DISPLAY STATUS gives only part of this, in text form and passive). I've used it in the past but now can't find it, nor any reference in the Help. Please help!

Don't have FPW2.6 anywhere near, but I guess you are talking about Data Session. In VFP6.0 it's found in menu Window->Data Session, or through a special button on Standard Toolbar. Check your main menu items, you should be able to find it.
