I have a cics that has 8 working phones. when I try to add station 29 it will flash but not boot up. I have 18v on the next 8 ports. I have tried moving a working phone and get the same results. The system shows first 8 ports as 101 to 108 and next 8 ports as 117 to 124. I have not restarted the system yet. do you thing that would help.

Thanks

You have "restricted software" which is 4 lines 8 stations (4X8)

Get the system version (SP Code) in Maintenance then verify with the list here to see which one you have.

We used to have this on the original Norstar Compact systems which were the good old 6+16 ones.

For very small sites, customers were sold 4+8 Norstar systems. Doing an upgrade from a 4+8 to a 6+16 was quite expensive all those years ago and it was really difficult to do on site to justify the costs.

All we did was to unplug the multi 8 port cable and replace it with the standard 16 port one. They were difficult jobs!. Ha-ha. Don't get them anymore.

I will be on site later this week and will check out the SP code. Is there unrestricted software that can be installed. I did connect to port 117

Page 101 in the attached file explains it all.

As stated above by phoneguy427, port 117 is the ATA port. Again, the attached guide shows you the details.

Yes but depending on your current software version depends on which software you need and if any extra sets are required so post that SP code for us when you get it.

As says here your version is 1.0, the first version created:
AI =CICS 1.0 NON-EXPANDED (4X8) H03

The latest is 7.1 with more features.
To get from 1.0 to 7.1 you needs to upgrade 3 times to keep your programming (phone side) so it's not worth acquiring those software's/upgrade tools.
Best to go straight to 7.1 and re-program the system from scratch.
The best/last: DH=CICS 7.1 STD IRAD-ON+AA PROG PROMPTS (SIP)(8X16/24) C12

You also need to worry about the voicemail system if there is or you may have compatibly issues.
To find version log into F983 then press 9, you can walk the client through that.

Otherwise try to search for 1.0 "Standard" software, power down, swap software, power up and wait.

I have ordered a replacement cics with 7.1. would using the memory card save any programming time or would it be better to start from starch.

The memory card is the 1.0 software, it will not do you an good.

Did you make sure the new system will come with "standard" software and not "restricted"?

You only needed the software.

I forgot to respond to your suggestions. I have installed a replacement 4 x 16 unit and it is working fine.
Thank you all for your responses.
