Static Routing Table

Hi,

I have the following static routing set up on a Cisco router.
I am trying to route to the 10.53.8.0 subnet which should have a next hop of 192.168.201.246, however traceroute always shows it's next hop going to 192.168.201.248.

Everything else is connected and working fine on the 10.53.8.0 subnet with return routes pointing back here.

IOS v12.3

This has baffled me! Ip is set to classless.
Any suggestions?

Errata on my post:

This works to 10.53.8.1:
S 10.53.8.1/32 [1/0] via 192.168.204.246

But this sends packets to 192.168.204.248:
S 10.53.8.0/24 [1/0] via 192.168.204.246

Whats going on?

ok so its the 204 subnet and not the 201 i guess that was a typo in the original post???

what is the ip on your fa0/1 interface.
are .246 and .248 two different devices?
when you trace to .246 does it take any strange hops?

1) Yep thats a typo Ive corrected myself on.

fa0/1 goes out onto a WAN cloud which has an IP of 192.168.204.254. This router is the central hub.

The other hops/routers on this subnet are at various branch office router locations.

.246 traces and pings fine. Whats interesting is that when the mask is /32 to 10.53.8.1 it all works fine. But when there is a /24 subnet for 10.53.8.0 instead of a 8.1/32 it sends packets to .248 ?

We have a whole subnet there, so it needs to be a 8.0/24.

??

when you run
sh ip ro 10.53.8.0

are your two statics the only ones you see?
does your isp do any routing for you?

- There are not overlapping routes
- No routing done by ISP, it is an ethernet plug into a cloud.

The only explanation I have for it is a bug in the IOS or a cosmic ray has come down and flipped a bit in the memory.

Router has not been rebooted in almost 6 months. But I would prefer not to use that as an option.

No, it's a different router in a different part of the country, but it is in the same cloud.

what type of wan cloud is it?
is it fully meshed?

It's a hub and spoke, with this router & its routing table being the central hub.
