Thinking outloud here while working on a G3rV8. Customer is saying they are getting static on inbound/outbound calls, station-to-station, and also on VM messages on this entire switch. This is part of a large network of Definity switches and none of the others have this issue.

The only alarms I see concerning this switch is for an expansion interface, but I have run the test described in the maint. guide and it passes fine.

The only thing that comes to mind is a bad TDM bus terminator. Is there anything else that could cause cabinet-wide static? I've had static on T-1's and copper trunks before, but never on an entire switch.

It sounds like the cabinets do not have a proper earth cable connected, so they will pick up static across all the cabinets etc. I'd check this first, every EPN also needs to be earthed.

I'll have them check. These cabs have been in for quite a while w/o issue.

hardware platform? cm software version?
How many cabinets in your g3r?
Do you use processor duplication?
Do you use Switch Node carriers and PNC duplication?
Is this using fiber direct connect?

How many cabinets have the issue?

Just thought I'd post the resolution to this isssue. It seems that the Expansion Interface board was the cause after all. I tested it repeatedly and got a fail on one of the tests. After replacing the board, no issues.

Thanks!

Thank you for posting the solution; this will help others who might encounter the same issue. A star for you!
